My dear Dr. Pammel:--
Thank you for your good letter of some days ago, I certainly thank you for your efforts to secure the degree, I am sorry that it caused you so much trouble.
I do not care for it especially, from any other institution, I certainly will not seek it, if thrust upon me like the Spingarn medal I will take it of course.
I wanted it as a priceless heritage from your Dept. As I believe it inspires more boys and girls to delve into the mysteries of nature and natures God than any other.
I am sending you a clipping which is self explanatory.
See Whos Who in America page 2895Joel Elias Spingarn. Bishop Hearst is simply one of the Committee on Awards.
I have not as yet seen the Bomb, I wish they would send me a copy.
