Membership Directory for ASA Members

We have signed a contract with American Dairy Science Association (ADSA)
that will serve as our Business Manager. As they will have all of our
members' names in their computer by May, it would be possibly for them to pro­duce
a membership directory to provide our members with the correct address
and phone number of everyone in the Society. However, we will not have avail­able
the scientific discipline and the clinical interest of each member. Such
information will be obtained when we send out the dues notices to the members
o f the Society in the fall of '88. Prior to that time we must have a commit­tee
of interested officers and Council members prepare a menu of topics from
which all membership can select categories describing their scientific
interests and/or clinical practice. These categories will then be included on
the dues notice in the fall of 1988 and each year thereafter so that we have a
continual update of people's changing and varied interests.
In the meantime, we could consider one of the following possibilities
regarding a new directory of members. After reading them, please indicate to
me which you would prefer.
(1) Publish an interim inexpensive "pocket size" directory like the one
whose pages are attached to this memo. The advantages are that this directory
