I was very glad to learn that you are willing to serve on the Editorial Board
of the Journal of Andrology.
At this time, I would like to ask you for help in selecting topics and authors
for the review articles which we try to include in every issue of the Journal.
It was the opinion of the Editorial Board, the Publication Committee and the
Council of ASA that the Journal might benefit from including a limited number
of invited review articles. Personally, I feel very strongly that carefully
selected and well-prepared reviews are a great asset to our Journal at this
stage of its existence. In addition, articles dealing with topics of clinical
relevance help to achieve a better balance of clinical and "basic" material.
As you may know, perhaps as many as one half of ASA members are not involved
in basic research and thus most of the papers published in our Journal may
appear very esoteric in nature to a substantial proportion of subscribers.
Thus it is particularly in the area of clinical andrology that review articles
can serve a very important role. It is in this context that I would like to
solicit your suggestions on the (1) topics to be covered in invited review
articles and (2) suggested contributors of articles in these areas, not to
exclude yourself.
I am enclosing an application form for the membership in ASA. I am sorry it
was not included with my last letter. If you no longer need it, perhaps you
could pass it to someone at your institution who is interested in andrology.
