e American Society of Andrology October, 1984 Dear Member: The 1987 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Andrology will be held in Colorado. Although it might be nice to hold the meeting at a mountain resort, the local committee considers this to be impractical because of the additional time required for travel to and from the mountai ns and because of additional expense invol ved. Consequentl y, the meeting will be held in the Denver area. The local committee would like your opinion on the most desirable time of week to hold the annual meeting during March or the first two weeks of Aprll, 1987. The local arrangements committee is giving serious consi deration to i ncl udi ng one or both days of the weekend as meeti ng days rather than havi ng all meeti ng days fallon weekdays as has been true in the recent past. There are advantages and disadvantages to any schedule. Among the advantages of staying Saturday night in the convention city is that reduced air fares are possible. Furthermore, room rates at many hotels are cheaper over the weekend than on weekdays. A third advantage is that a member does not lose as much time from his/her clinical, teaching or research activities. For those who wish to visit ski resorts before or after the meeting, lower rates and less crowded conditions are advantages of skiing during the weekdays. Among the disadvantages of meeting on a weekend are that it may impose on family traditions, free time or the Sabbath. Other disadvantages may be evident to some individuals. The local arrangements committee is considering four possible sequences and is leaning toward utilization of either sequence 1 or 2 in preference to sequence 3 or 4. At this time, no preference has been established between sequence 1 and 2 or between sequence 3 and 4. PRESIDENT Rudi Ansbacher, M.D. Department of Ob/Gyn Women's Hospital U. Michigan Med. Ctr.
