Former ISC Statistical Laboratory Head Takes New B^bsition /^t^t^fi^^ & Pfc
Ames, Iowa, Nov. 21--G~eorge W. Snedecor, who brought the Statistical
Laboratory at Iowa State College to international prominence, is leaving the
college faculty to accept another position.
At the age of 77, the widely known statistician will end his 45-year career

with Iowa State Nov. 30, and will move to San Diego, Calif., where he will be

employed by the Navy Electronics Laboratory in a professional position.
Snedecor joined the ISC faculty in 1913 as a member of the mathematics

department. He was founder and first director of the Statistical Laboratory, and
was a pioneer in the movement to apply statistics to agricultural experiments.
Cooperative statistical projects with the Bureau of Agricultural Economics,
Bureau of Census and Weather Bureau were developed. The national master
sample of agriculture, a million dollar project, was constructed under this
cooperation, and curricula in climatology instituted in cooperation with the
Weather Bureau.
With Henry A. Wallace, editor of Wallaces Farmer, in 1925 he developed a
bulletin, "Correlation and Machine Calculation," which created world-wide
interest and is still widely used. Snedecor is author of a classic text on
statistical methods, which recently was published in its fifth edition, many
