An attempt at deciphering the letter 11
Clermont,? Oct. 29, 1882
Dear Rich?
Yours of the 27th at hand and
I will endeavor to see Mr. Grattum? before he attacks?
meeting? but may not be able to do it as my
time is already engaged for two weeks. I will
however try to hunt him up and get after him.
People generally? appreciate the labors of
Mr. Welch in building up the Ag College. Were it otherwise
a to him not be taken . I
have long considered him one of our most highly cultural
and most energetic among our public men and I hope he will
not be disturbed.
Yours ___
Wm. Probably from William Larrabee, later Governor of Iowa (1886-1890), who was from Clermont
